What is a Synchronization License and when do I need one?

A synchronization license is an authorization to use recorded music in combination with visual images, such as in film and TV, on YouTube, and in video games. It is often called a sync license.

A sync license covers the musical composition, meaning the melody and lyrics. If your project uses a specific existing recording of that song, you will also need a master use license from the owner of that recording.
