Why haven't I been paid my royalties from the product company?
Royalty payments can be delayed, sent outside the usual cycle, or held in escrow for a few common reasons. Most often, the account simply hasn't reached a payable status yet in the Music Services dashboard.
1. Check Your Payments and Taxes Settings
Before royalties can be released, confirm that everything under Payments and Taxes in your Music Services dashboard is complete:
- All payment forms are fully filled out
- The correct W-9 or W-8 has been submitted
- If you submitted a W-8, your tax withholding selections are accurate
Royalties are not paid until these documents are completed and verified with the IRS.
2. Confirm You've Reached the Payment Threshold
Once your account is payable and your tax documentation is verified, accrued royalties are paid in the next accounting cycle for that client after you meet the minimum payment threshold:
| Payee Type | Threshold |
|---|---|
| U.S. payees | $50 |
| International payees | $250 |
3. Check the Payment Schedule
Some payments arrive later than expected because a client is still catching up on its accounting. When this happens, Music Services releases royalties as quickly as possible, but payment may fall outside the regular cycle.
Regular payment schedules:
| Frequency | Dates |
|---|---|
| Quarterly | February 15, May 15, August 15, November 15 |
| Semi-annual | February, August |
